Improvements to PenjanaKerjaya

KUALA LUMPUR: The government will continue providing the employment initiative or PenjanaKerjaya under the Social Security Organisation (Socso) next year.

In his speech during the tabling of the 2021 Budget here today, Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz said the government will also introduce several improvements to the PenjanaKerjaya initiative.

Among the improvement included incentives for workers earning RM1,500 will be increased by 40 per cent of their monthly salary from the flat rate of RM800 per month.

"To encourage the creation of greater employment opportunities for disabled (OKU) groups, person who have been unemployed for a long time and those who were retrenched, employers will be given an additional incentive of 20 per cent (to hire the affected groups).

"This will bring the total incentive received by the employers to 60 per cent," he said in his speech.

For sectors that have high dependency on foreign labour such as construction and plantations, employers will enjoy 60 per cent of special incentive of the monthly salary.

"Of the total amount, 40 per cent will be given directly to the employers with the rest channelled to the workers.

"All these three incentives will be given for a period of six months," he said.

He added for those employed under PenjanaKerjaya, the maximum cost for training that is claimable by their respective employer will be increased from RM4,000 to RM7,000 for those enrolled in high-skilled programmes or professional certificate.
