Sultan Muhammad V installed as 15th Yang di-Pertuan Agong

KUALA LUMPUR: Sultan Muhammad V was installed as the country's 15th Yang di-Pertuan Agong today.

The installation took place in a majestic ceremony steeped in custom and tradition at the Balairung Seri, Istana Negara this morning.

His Majesty was first presented with the Al-Quran and installation regalia, before reading his oath.

“I will justly and faithfully perform duties in the administration of Malaysia in accordance with its law and constitution and at all times protect the religion of Islam and uphold the rules of law and order in the country."

The oath ceremony and signing of the oath was held to meet the requirement under Article 32 (1) of the Federal Constitution, which states that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong is the Supreme Head of the Federation and takes precedence over all other persons in the Federation.

Earlier, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak also read out the proclamation of installation.

“…today on this auspicious and glorious day and time, (Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V) shall be installed as the duly enthroned ruler of Malaysia titled as His Majesty the 15th Yang di-Pertuan Agong of the Federation of Malaysia.”

The Agong took his oath of office for a five-year appointment and signed the Letter of Appointment at a ceremony held on Dec 13.

Sultan Muhammad V replaces Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah, the reigning Sultan of Kedah.

He was named the Yang di-Pertuan Agong by the Conference of Rulers at the Istana Negara in October last year.
