Police to summon TV host and producer over remarks on Watson Nyambek's father

MIRI: Police will call up the host and producer of the television programme "Sukan Tak Sentral", who was accused of making insulting remarks against the father of former national sprinter, Watson Nyambek.

Sarawak Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Dev Kumar said the case is being investigated under Section 504 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum two years' jail or a fine, or both upon conviction.

Section 504 covers intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of the peace.

Dev said investigations were initiated following a police report lodged by Watson at the Miri Central Police Station here this morning.

"Sarawak police confirm that we have received the report and viewed the video footage of the programme, which had gone viral in social media.

"We will interview the hosts and producers of the programme soon to wrap up investigations into the case," said Dev in a statement today.

Earlier, Watson, who is now a trainer with the National Sports Council, lodged a police reports against the host, producer and TV3, which had aired the sports-based comedy programme.

The programme was produced by Primeworks Studios Sdn Bhd.

The studio had yesterday issued an apology over the conduct of its host and said the person has already been suspended.
