IPOH: The Sultan Azlan Shah Airport (LTSAS) here has been closed due to a suspected sinkhole in the runway, which appeared yesterday evening.
Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) said to ensure the safety of flight operations, the runway has been closed for 24 hours, starting 6.40pm (yesterday).
"During our regular inspection, we detected distress to the runway caused by a suspected sinkhole. Our technical team was immediately deployed to the site for a preliminary assessment.
"All airlines have been notified of this closure and a total of 12 flights by Malindo Air, TigerAir and Firefly will be affected," MAHB said in a tweet.
MAHB said passengers are advised to check with their respective airlines on their flight schedule.
"We regret any inconvenience caused and further updates will be provided once a full assessment is done and rectification works are completed," it added. -- BERNAMA
