Muslims must not let anger lead them to commit unlawful acts: Pahang Mufti

KUANTAN: Muslims must not take matters into their own hands and go against the law when dealing with issues linked to Islam, Pahang Mufti Datuk Seri Dr Abdul Rahman Osman said today.

He reminded Muslims not to allow anger over religious issues to lead them to commit unlawful acts.

Rahman cited the recent incident in Taman Austin Perdana, Johor, where a fracas was triggered over a car sounding its horn during Friday prayers.

"One cannot get angry to the extent that (one abandons one’s prayers to) go smash a car window," he said.

The mufti added that one must exercise wisdom when dealing with potentially-sensitive issues, as Malaysia is a society where people of various faiths and customs live together.

Rahman was speaking during a press conference after launching an Islamic NGO (non-governmental organisation) secretariat here today.

On May 5, a 28-year-old engineer sustained cuts on his head and body when he was assaulted by several men after Friday prayers.

The 1.30pm incident occurred when the victim sounded his car horn continuously when he found his path blocked by the car of a worshipper who was praying in a nearby surau.

Following the incident, police arrested four men, aged between 21 and 55, to help in the investigation under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting.

The suspects were released on police bail after their statements were recorded.

The police also met with the victim and representatives from the surau.
