Muslims must lead by example, says MB

IPOH: Muslims must lead by example and set a good model for others, demonstrating patience and strong integrity, Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said today.

Saarani said by nurturing and practising these values, Muslims could inspire those around them to contribute to a more loving and fair world.

"We must believe that building a credible government in Islamic countries is very important. The Malaysia Madani that we are implementing is the foundation for progress and guides us in promoting transparency, accountability and citizen engagement.

"Our government must be transparent, stable, and credible, upholding the principles of good governance and the rule of law.

"This is crucial not only for the prosperity of the country but also for maintaining the trust and confidence of the people," he said.

Saarani said this in his speech at the closing ceremony of the 7th World Conference on Islamic Thought and Civilisation (WCIT 2024) at Hotel Casuarina@Meru.

He added that only through such introspection and renewal could a strong, responsible and accountable government be set up.

"It becomes the cornerstone of a nation that is economically advanced and socially just. Collectively, our future depends on our ability to adapt, innovate and lead with integrity," he said.

On the event, Saarani said WCIT 2024 successfully explored various issues affecting global human life under the theme 'Together We Stand: Muslims and Global Humanity', where panel members, including prominent scholars from diverse fields, engaged in discussions to find ways to make the world a better place.

Saarani said Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, during the opening of this conference on Monday, succeeded in broadening the perspectives on how the unity of Muslims could be a solution in shaping policies that benefit the global community.

"His Royal Highness emphasised a very significant perspective, noting that Muslims, who share the same faith, direction and the Quran should develop policies that can influence the Islamic world and positively impact the global community.

"His Royal Highness's views reflect the era we are experiencing today. It is not just a call to action but also a reminder that there must be a collective responsibility among the global community — beyond religious beliefs and affiliations — to create a more peaceful and harmonious world," he said.

Saarani said the first point of reflection was the need for both Muslims and non-Muslims to recognise and accept the reality of their mutual interdependence.

"In an era where global challenges related to the environment, economy, and social issues are becoming more acute, communities around the world must overcome prejudices and fears towards one another.

"We must build trust and work as partners in creating a civilisation that celebrates universal humanity.

"Through unity and understanding, we can over-come barriers that divide us and strive to build bridges of solidarity while nurturing a spirit of tolerance.

"The perspectives presented over the three days of the conference generally suggest that we should rethink and revise our approach to economic development planning and support political stability agenda," he said.

Saarani also extended his appreciation to the organiser, Universiti Sultan Azlan Shah, and all those who contributed to the success of WCIT 2024.

"May WCIT 2024 not only serve as a platform for the intellectual discourse of global thinkers but also enhance Perak's reputation as a host of world-class discussions, while fostering global peace and driving the strength of the Muslim economy worldwide," he said.
