Composition of Selangor state gov't will be maintained: MB

SHAH ALAM: There will be no reshuffle in the Selangor state government line-up and the current composition of PKR, DAP and PAS assemblymen will be maintained until the next general election (GE14).

Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali said the mandate given by the people in the 13th general election must be respected, and efforts to develop the state will continue.

He said the current state government had secured a huge majority in Selangor, and it is his moral obligation, together with the exco and state assemblymen, to remain united and strong, working together as a team to honour the mandate, until GE14.

Azmin, who is also PKR deputy president, said this when asked to comment on calls by Parti Amanah Negara (PAN) Youth vice-chief Shazni Munir for Pas executive councillors to be kicked out of the state government.

The call followed the Islamist party's motion to cut ties with PKR at its muktamar last week.

The Menteri Besar was also asked how his administration could continue to function without political cooperation between the two parties.

"The Selangor state government was formed based on the support given to the majority of the 43 assemblymen, and not based on parties. It is my duty and responsibility to honour the trust given by the people, and it is not me who made the choice. The people gave us one term to work, and not to fight, and I will honour the people's wish.

"The mandate (from the people) was given for one term. The mandate is clear. Did they say in the ballot paper ‘I will give you the mandate for three months’? Certainly not. Don't undermine the wisdom of the voters. They made it clear that they need change, they need major reform after 2008, and so we need to deliver back to the people.

“We have to respect that democratic process. I do not have anything to be worried about, because the Selangor state government is stable," he said today.

Azmin was met at the Selangor state government's Civil Servants Excellent Service Awards 2016 at the Shah Alam Convention Centre, here.

He said in the meantime, PKR will wait for Pas' Syura Council’s decision on the two parties’ political ties, and urged all not to speculate on the matter.
