Palestinian protest at WTKL over request to return home, resolved peacefully [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: The armed forces have confirmed an incident where a group of Palestinian nationals had set fire to a pile of objects on a road at Wisma Transit Kuala Lumpur (WTKL).

A video recently went viral showing the commotion, which reportedly stemmed from their request for expedited processing of applications to return to Palestine.

Military personnel stationed at the facility engaged with the Palestinians to address their concerns.

"The situation was managed effectively without any altercations or injuries, although minor damage to furniture was reported," said a statement today.

The incident, which occurred around 5pm, was resolved by 7.30pm, with the individuals dispersing peacefully. The military stated that order was maintained throughout the process.

Netizens sympathised with the Palestinians for their inability to return home at will.

"I was once forced to stay there for just a week due to flight unavailability and I was going crazy. Imagine being there for months," said user @andyzachry.

"They are exhausted. They should receive motivational aid," said user Iwans.

In October, a video recording of a Palestinian woman causing a disturbance and damaging public property at WTKL went viral on social media before she later issued an apology.

The individual was part of a group of 127 Palestinian civilians injured and brought to Malaysia on  Aug 16 last year to receive medical treatment following Israel's attack on Gaza.

On Aug 4, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, at the Palestine Solidarity Assembly in Bukit Jalil, announced that Malaysia planned to accept injured Palestinian civilians to enable them to receive treatment in Malaysia.

Two Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) Airbus A-400M aircraft transported 127 injured Palestinian civilians from Egypt to the RMAF Subang Air Base on Aug 16.
