Now you can lodge police reports from home, but only in KL

KUALA LUMPUR: City police have launched its e-reporting facility for non-crime related reports following the success of the pilot project initiated at the Taman Tun Dr Ismail station in March.

City police chief Datuk Amar Singh launched the facility for all six districts under the city police headquarters.

Speaking at the launch, he said the online reporting system was found to be a viable one in the two months or so that it had been in use at the TTDI station.

"For any report in KL which does not have any element of crime, the public can now lodge reports and print out these teports from the comfort of their own homes. They don't have to go to the stations to lodge these reports," he said.

Amar said one of the reasons the decision was made to launch the system was also because it was found that the vast majority of reports filed in the city involved no element of crime.

He said, over the past few years, up to 90 per cent of the reports lodged at city police stations involved no criminal element.

With the e-reporting system, the public can lodge reports should they lose any important documents such as MyKad, passports and driving licences, provided these are not stolen, or if a foreign domestic helper runs away.

However, those intending to use the system will have to register first, so that their identities can be verified.

The system is open only to Malaysians aged 18 and above.

Those who want to use the system can go to ereporting.rmp.gov.my to register.

Amar also launched a facility which allows the public to check on the progress of investigations into any report they had lodged.

Called Sistem Semakan Online (SSO), it can be accessed via the URL sso.rmp.gov.my but also requires registration.
