Fire breaks out on RMN's KD Jebat

LUMUT: Fire broke out on the Royal Malaysian Navy‘s missile frigate KD Jebat while it was docked at the naval base here today.

RMN chief Admiral Tan Sri Ahmad Kamarulzaman Ahmad Badaruddin, in a statement today, said the fire broke out at a galley area while the personnel were busy preparing the 'sahur' (pre-dawn meal).

"The navy personnel, together with a team of firemen from Lumut managed to completely control the fire at 5am.

"No injuries were reported and the RMN has set up an investigation board to identify the source of the fire and the losses incurred," he added.

Meanwhile, a Lumut Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said they received a call at 3.15am on the fire on board the Lekiu-class frigate.

"A team of firemen from the Setiawan station was also despatched to the scene to control the fire," he added.
