Zulkifili appointed as new Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency chief

PUTRAJAYA : Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) deputy director-general (operations) Datuk Zulkifili Abu Bakar has been appointed as the agency’s new director-general effective yesterday.

Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa said Zulkifili replaces Datuk Seri Ahmad Puzi Ab Kahar whose contract ended on May 27.

Zulkifili, 57, obtained his master’s degree in international law from International Maritime Law Institute and law degree from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.

He joined the MMEA on Nov 1, 2005.

“He was appointed based on his qualification, experience and knowledge especially in maritime law and enforcement.

“He has held various posts in MMEA, including as the deputy director-general (logistics), crime investigation branch director as well as north and south region maritime enforcement chief.

“I believe his qualification, experience, skills and leadership will enable him to lead MMEA and continue the excellence in protecting the security and prosperity of our waters effectively and efficiently,” Ali said in a statement, today.

Ali also thanked Ahmad Puzi for his contribution and services as the director-general since his appointment on Sep 9, 2015.
