KUALA LUMPUR: Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM) is confident that the investigation into the abuse and death on Thursday of its student Zulfarhan Osman Zulkarnain would be professional and transparent.
In a statement here, it said it could not provide further details on the incident as management and discipline of cadet officers were under the jurisdiction of the Military Training Academy Unit of the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF).
"The investigation board has been specially set up, led by MAF. The university believes a professional and transparent investigation is being conducted and that those responsible will be brought to justice," it said.
UPNM said it would continue to focus on academic excellence and research to produce quality and competent graduates.
Zulfarhan Osman, 21, a UPNM navy cadet officer passed away in Serdang Hospital around 10pm with bruises and scalding marks on his body.
Police have classified the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code and remanded 36 students of UPNM and Uniten aged between 20 and 21 years for seven days till Friday to facilitate investigations. – Bernama
