BESUT: Enraged over a misunderstanding with a village head, a man proceeded to run amok with a parang and smashed a car in Kampung Gong Duek, here yesterday.
Efforts by the law enforcement authorities to bring him under control, including using a taser as well as a water jet, all failed and the man escaped.
It was alleged that the man, in his 30s, was angry with the local Village Development and Security Committee chairman, who had reported him for a drugs-related offence.
The man took matters into his own hands and, using a parang, proceeded to smash the back of the chairman's car.
Police were then summoned to bring him under control.
District police chief Superintendent Mohd Zamri Mohd Rowi said the authorities had no choice but to use a taser gun to subdue the man after efforts to calm him down failed.
Despite several shots of the taser gun, and even a water jet, police failed to overpower the man and he fled into a nearby jungle.
"We have deployed sniffer dogs to track him down," he said.
As of 11pm, efforts to trace the man are still ongoing.
