There is no doubt that Malaysia is committed to achieving its green energy targets as pledged at the 21st Conference of Parties in Paris in 2015.
With 22.1% of energy generation mix already from renewable sources and having pledged to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions intensity by 45% of GDP by 2030, Malaysia is ready to inspire the world to create a Green Future.
MALAYSIA WILL SHOW LEADERSHIP AT EXPO 2017
The platform for Malaysia’s inspiration is EXPO 2017. Held in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, from 10 June to 10 September 2017, Malaysia will join over 100 countries and organisations in a global event about Future Energy, over 93 days, with a mission to create debate and awareness regarding the impact that energy management has on the lives of people and that of the planet.
The Malaysia Pavilion, which carries the theme “Powering Green Growth”, is one of the largest pavilions at EXPO 2017, and showcases Malaysia’s leadership and expertise in green technology as well as Malaysia’s unique Truly Asia culture.
GREEN GROWTH IS IN OUR NATURE
Malaysia is a natural home for green growth and future energy technology. As the most forested emerging market amongst the world’s top 100 economies, Malaysia has demonstrated that rainforest conservation is essential to a green future.
Malaysia is now one of the world’s largest manufacturers of solar photovoltaic (PV) cells and modules, building on the over 40 years of semiconductor manufacturing expertise that Malaysia has become known for throughout the world. In fact, four of the world’s five largest producers of PV cells are based in Malaysia.
The Malaysian delegation to EXPO 2017 plans to prove to the world that a relatively small country like Malaysia can inspire big change in green growth. And that the world should consider Malaysia a partner for green technology.
CREATING A THOUSAND BUTTERFLY EFFECTS
Individual Malaysians can also be part of EXPO 2017 by helping to create a butterfly effect that raises awareness around the world about future energy.
The principle of the butterfly effect is that even the flap of a butterfly’s wings in Malaysia can affect change in another part of the world.
Malaysia introduced the #MyButterflyEffect campaign to invite all at EXPO 2017 to offer ideas to create a Green Future. The intent is to harness the collective energy from social voices to inspire change towards a green future.
The two most inspiring posts from Malaysia will win an all-expense paid trip to EXPO 2017 in Astana.
