PUTRAJAYA: Felda Global Ventures Holdings Bhd (FGV) should improve corporate governance to resolve the issue, said Felda chairman Tan Sri Shahrir Abdul Samad.
Shahrir said those were among the views he shared with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak on the controversy surrounding FGV.
Shahrir said, as a significant shareholder of FGV, Felda deserves to be on FGV's board of directors.
“We have stated our views as a significant shareholder of FGV to the prime minister, that as a government-linked company, FGV has to demonstrate a high standard of corporate governance.
“As one of the shareholders, we deserve to be on the FGV board of directors to ensure good governance.
“The corporate governance in FGV needs to be improved. There is also need to make changes in FGV.
"On other major points about this issue, let the prime minister make the announcement,” he told reporters after spending about 30 minutes in a meeting with Najib at the Finance Ministry, here.
Asked if FGV chairman Tan Sri Isa Samad has met him to shed light on the issue, Shahrir said no representative from FGV has met him so far.
“Nobody from FGV has come forward. I believe they don’t understand corporate governance, so we don’t know what is happening.
“We are the big shareholder, they are the ones who are supposed to respect our views and safeguard the interest of the shareholders” he said.
