RMAF locates missing Hawk 108, wreckage found in Kampung Yak Yah

KEMAMAN: The Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) search and rescue (SAR) team has recovered the wreckage of the Hawk 108 advanced jet trainer at Kampung Yak Yah in Chukai here today.

In a statement issued, RMAF said that a five-member SAR team on a Eurocopter EC725 spotted the wreckage at 10.27am.

The team members were then lowered to the ground of the crash site, before they confirmed the discovery of the ill-fated aircraft.

"A safety perimeter has been put up (around crash site) for investigation and safety purposes.

"RMAF is now in the midst of bringing out the wreckage from the site," read the statement.

The investigation board led by Lieutenant Colonel A. John Sham, along with three officers, have been deployed to the site to conduct investigations.

The team members from Kuantan are pilots Captain Nazir Mohd Nor, Captain Muhammad Yunus Mat Nor, RMAF Sergeant Azrin Mohamad @ Johor, RMAF Corporal Sharizal Baktiar Jamali and RMAF Corporal Zulbakrin Masuda.
