PEKAN: The government will look into strengthening the management of Felda and Felda Global Ventures Holdings Bhd (FGV) for the benefit of settlers.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said this is part of the government's efforts to continuously uplift Felda schemes through the welfare of settlers.
"We will look into Felda and public-listed FGV on how to conduct strengthening of their management so that FGV can benefit Felda and settlers," said Najib, who is also Pekan member of parliament.
He noted that Felda, first established in the 1960s, is testament to the government's aim to safeguard the welfare of Malaysian society.
Najib said that since the establishment of Felda, there had been major positive change in the quality of life in rural areas, especially in Felda schemes.
"Those who came here (to be settlers in Felda schemes) have achieved a brighter future," he said.
He added that the installation of more streetlights in Felda schemes like Felda Chini 1 here is testament to the increased quality of life of settlers.
He was speaking during a speech at a buka puasa event with settlers at Felda Chini 1 here today.
During the speech, he also announced the installation of 7,700 streetlights in Pahang as part of Phase 8 of the Village Road Lights Project (Lampu Jalan Kampung Fasa Lapan or LJK8).
Also present were Chini assemblyman Datuk Abu Bakar Harun, Rural and Regional Development Ministry's state director Datuk Mohd Aruwan Ab Aziz, and TNB general manager (corporate affairs) Datuk Mohd Aminuddin Mohd Amin.
