Manage Felda co-op well, says PM

SERDANG: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim wants Koperasi Permodalan Felda (KPF) to be managed efficiently so that it can focus on the welfare of settlers.

The prime minister said cooperatives were important but they were unable to serve their purpose due to unskilled management staff.

"Cooperatives are very important institutions, but sometimes their weakness lies in appointing unqualified personnel.

"(KPF's) initial fund of RM2.5 billion should be managed efficiently and monitored by the board," he said in his speech at the National Felda Settlers' Day 2024 celebration launch in the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) today.

Anwar said efficient and good governance were prioritised by the current government, including in the procurement of tenders to avoid any malpractice or abuse of power.

"In the past, tenders were for in-laws, wife, cronies, but now all government tenders and I believe in Felda, FGV and cooperatives too, let them be very transparent so that there is no attempt to misappropriate people's money and settlers' money.

"Sometimes the government bodies that are supposed to look after Bumiputeras still continue with its corrupt practices," he said
