IPOH: As Ramadan draws to a close, Muslims should take the time to reflect on the less fortunate including more than 60 million people forced to live in refugee camps, said Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah.
"As we rejoice and celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri, remember the suffering of others and extend help by sharing our wealth and contribute to the needy.
"Ramadan has given us the opportunity to perform our duties and be closer to God and return to the pure nature of humans through fasting and other religious deeds.
"It is hoped that our deeds will help cleanse our soul and helped to gain healthier body," read a statement today.
Sultan Nazrin said Islam commanded for Aidilfitri, a special day that is filled with joy, which is a celebration of victory in abstaining ourselves from sinful acts.
"Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) called on Muslims to make Aidilfitri as the day to forge unity of ummah. He declared it as a day of peace, joy and happiness.
After performing Aidilftri prayer, he would visit family and friends and served food for those coming to visit him.
"Celebrate Aidilfitri with enjoying all of God's gifts, based on guidance (sunnah) of our prophet and visit our relatives and friends and accept guests in the spirit of ukhuwah (bond) and brotherhood," he said.
Sultan Nazrin also called on public to appreciate and honour sacrifices made by personnel in the armed forces, police, Fire and Rescue Department, Immigration Department, Customs and hospital personnel who are on duty to maintain peace and order as well as those in the services, transportation and media sectors.
