PUTRAJAYA: Malaysians have been advised to observe good personal hygiene and clean food handling practices to avoid food poisoning during the month of Syawal.
In a statement today, food poisoning cases in the country last year, increased by 51.6 per cent during Hari Raya, said Health director Datuk Seri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
Therefore, he advised the public to always be aware of food safety.
“Food poisoning cases increased greatly during the month of Syawal.
“Therefore in preparing food at home, one has to make sure clean and safe food handling practices are always observed.
“Meanwhile guests attending any dinners must practice the ‘see, smell and taste’ method before feasting,” the statement read.
Dr Noor Hisham also advised the public to always practice good self-hygiene such as hand washing with soap and clean water before preparing food, before eating and after going to the toilet.
“Always remember to uphold good hygiene practices to avoid incidences of food poisoning.”
