PM hails Abdul Latif for record-breaking gold medal win in London

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has congratulated national paralympic athlete Abdul Latif Romly on his success in defending his gold medal and breaking the men's long jump T20 (intellectual disability) record at the 2017 World Paralympic Championships in London on Sunday.

"Congratulations Latif Romly for breaking the long jump record at # London2017, winning gold! #TerbangLatifTerbang #Kebanggaanku #Negaraku,” Najib wrote on his Twitter page last night.

The Rio 2016 Paralympics gold medallist recorded a 7.37 metre jump, breaking his previous 7.35m record in Doha, Qatar in 2015.

Croatian athlete Zoran Talic, who is also the 2016 Rio Paralympics silver medallist, took the silver medal with 7.32m, while Dmytro Prudnikov of Ukraine had to settle for the bronze with 7.12m in the meet held at the London Stadium in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. -- BERNAMA
