JOHOR BARU: A total of 14 people have died from dengue fever in Johor from the 212 dengue cases recorded in the state in the week ending July 22.
This marked a 7.6 per cent increase in the number of cases recorded last week, which saw 197 cases registered.
State Health, Environment, Education and Information Executive Committee chairman Datuk Ayub Rahmat said the deceased aged between eight and 67.
However, the number of cumulative cases of dengue from the beginning of the year to July 22 was 4,526 cases, which showed a decrease compared to the number of cumulative cases in the same period last year, at 7,949 cases.
Johor Baru still recorded the highest number of cases with 79.7 per cent, followed by Kulai (8.96 per cent), Kota Tinggi (4.7 per cent), Kluang (3.3 per cent), Muar (1.9 per cent), Mersing (0.94 per cent) and Batu Pahat (0.47 per cent).
There were no reported cases in Tangkak, Segamat and Pontian.
"A total of 22 new mosquito breeding grounds were identified, with 20 in Johor Baru and one each in Muar and Kulai," Ayub said.
