KUALA LUMPUR: Businessman Loh Mui Fah, whose son Loh Gwo Burne made an infamous video recording of top lawyer Datuk V.K. Lingam allegedly fixing the appointment of judges, has died. He was 68.
Gwo Burne, a former Kelana Jaya Member of Parliament, posted the news of his father’s passing on his Facebook page.
“With a heavy heart, we bring sad news that our beloved father, Mr Loh Mui Fah, passed away peacefully on Aug 3. The memorial service will be held at Parlour 13, 1st floor, Nirvana Memorial Centre, No. 1, Jalan 1/116a, off Jalan Sungai Besi, 57100,
“The cortege will leave for the cremation on Aug 7 (Monday), 10am at Nirvana Crematorium (Shah Alam),” he wrote.
Gwo Burne made headlines in 2007 when he secretly filmed a telephone conversation between Lingam and a person believed to be former chief judge of Malaya, Ahmad Fairuz Sheikh Abdul Halim.
Mui Fah had said the recording took place at Lingam's house in Kelana Jaya, Selangor, in late Dec 2001, and revealed that he had been present during the conversation.
The clip was released publicly by PKR de-facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in Sept 2007 and fuelled a debate on corruption and abuse of power in the judiciary.
A government-appointed Royal Commission of Inquiry was formed the following year to look into the authenticity of the controversial clip.
