SERIAN: Two teenage sisters have claimed that they had been raped by their father, grandfather, and two uncles over the last six years.
The sisters, now aged 19 and 14, from Kampung Daha Seroban in Serian, Sarawak, claimed that they had been raped by the men in their family since they were 13 and nine-years-old, respectively.
The case came to light when police were told by the Serian Hospital of a teenage pregnancy case involving a 19-year-old girl.
Upon being quizzed on the circumstances of her pregnancy, the teen opened up to the authorities and told them that she had been repeatedly raped by the four family members since she was 13.
She claimed that her younger sister was also not spared, having been raped since she was nine.
The sisters were repeatedly raped in the family home, which they share with the male family members.
State Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Dev Kumar said the men, aged between 57 and 26, were arrested at Kampung Daha Seroban at 3.30pm today.
Dev said all four suspects are expected to remanded at the magistrate’s court here tomorrow. The case is being investigated under Section 376B of the Penal Code for statutory rape, which carries a maximum 30 years’ jail and caning, upon conviction.
This is the second such case in Sarawak in recent weeks involving rape by multiple family members.
On July 28, five people were charged with the rape of a 12-year-old girl in Limbang. The accused were the victim’s 76-year-old grandfather, her 40-year-old father, and three relatives aged between 16 and 21.
They were charged with 22 counts of raping the girl at several locations at their village in Limbang between November last year and June this year.
The case has been fixed for mention on Sept 6.
