KUANTAN: Two Vietnamese fishermen suffered serious burns when their boat caught fire and was completely destroyed in waters off Tanjung Api here last night.
The duo, aged 24 and 58, was rushed by a nearby fishing boat to the Tanjung Api jetty, before they were taken by a medical team to the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA) here.
District Fire and Rescue Department chief Kamerul Bieza Mohamed Kassim said that the duo was at sea, repairing their boat, when it suddenly caught fire.
"Some nearby fishing boats spotted the incident and noticed the men shouting for help, and went to their aid. The boat was completely destroyed in the fire.
"The Department's Emergency Medical Rescue Services Unit was deployed to the jetty and the medical team from the HTAA was at the jetty to provide assistance," Kamerul said, adding that the two victims are in stable condition.
