KUALA LUMPUR: At least 10 agencies in Singapore are expected to join the World #QuranHour programme on Aug 31, with another two more also contemplating joining in.
Madani Institute Singapore executive director Mohd Jakfar Embek said last year only seven agencies took part in the programme.
“Their involvement was made possible due to efforts in attracting more agencies to be part of the programme. We are glad that more agencies will be joining the #QuranHour programme this year... (each will hold the programme) at their respective places,” he said yesterday.
Jakfar said the #QuranHour programme was one of many ways of restoring the importance of the holy book among Muslims.
“Through the programme, we hope to increase awareness of Muslims in the republic to (encourage them to) study and practice the teachings of the Quran,” he said.
In Malaysia, the World #QuranHour will start at 8.30pm at Dataran Merdeka and at selected mosques nationwide.
It is being held in conjunction with the wuquf in Arafah, Mecca, on the ninth day of Zulhijjah of the Islamic calendar, which coincidently falls on Merdeka Day on Aug 31.
For one hour, Quran recitations will be held to encourage reading, understanding and discussions of the holy scripture.
Media Prima Group is one of World #QuranHour’s media partners.
