KUALA LUMPUR: Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar has confirmed that he would be retiring next month.
Khalid, who had led the police force for four years, would be celebrating his 60th birthday on September 5.
"My tenure will end when I am 60.
"For the time being, Deputy Inspector-General of Police (Tan Sri Noor Rashid) would be taking over," he said.
Khalid, the country's 10th IGP, had previously kept mum when asked whether his contract would be extended.
He had joined the police force in 1976 as an Inspector.
Having more than 40 years of experience under his belt, Khalid had seen numerous large scale and high-profile cases in his career.
These include the assassination of North Korean Kim Jong-nam and the murder case of deputy public prosecutor Kevin Morais.
