KUALA LUMPUR: Russian authorities and the Malaysian Embassy in Moscow are working closely to ensure the safe evacuation of 19 Malaysian climbers stranded on Mount Elbrus following a major mudslide.
In a statement released today, Wisma Putra said all roads near Terskol Village where the mudslide occurred are inaccessible, but that the Malaysian Embassy and local authorities are doing their best to reach the climbers.
"The Ministry hopes that family members will remain calm while evacuation procedures are followed.

However, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has tweeted through his account @NajibRazak that all 19 Malaysian climbers are reportedly safe.
Earlier, the Foreign Ministry confirmed that 19 Malaysians were left stranded after ascending Mount Elbrus, Europe and Russia’s highest mountain.
