KUALA LUMPUR: The Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) has appointed Qamar Wan Noor as its new chief operating officer (COO), effective today.
In a statement today, SPAD said Qamar will be responsible for the transformation of the transport industry as a whole, encompassing goods transport, bus and taxi services and related infrastructure.
“It includes the implementation of national projects like myBAS under the Stage Bus Services Transformation Programme and restructuring of the bus network in Greater Kuala Lumpur and the Klang Valley to ensure this mode of transport is efficient, integrated and sustainable and give value for money to consumers,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, SPAD chief executive officer Mohd Azharuddin Mat Sah, in a separate statement, said Qamar’s appointment is timely as he is the right man for the job.
Qamar, who graduated magna cum laude in chemical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, New York in 1990, has had a long career with oil giant Shell and served in senior posts in Malaysia, Asia-Pacific and the Middle East.
She has also headed supply and marketing distribution teams at marine logistics and land terminals in Oman, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Singapore.
