Keramat tahfiz fire: DAP extends condolences, calls for thorough probe into cause of fire

GEORGE TOWN: DAP has extended its heartfelt condolences to the families of the 24 people who died in a fire at the Darul Quran Ittifaqiyah Tahfiz school this morning.

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng also called for a thorough probe into the cause of the fire to prevent a recurrence in the future.

"We hope that the outcome of the investigation will serve as a lesson for greater responsibility and governance in future.

"This is to prevent such an incident from happening again," he said today.

Lim said no amount of words could describe the sadness felt after news of the fire broke out.

"On behalf of DAP, we extend our condolences to the families of those killed.

"We pray that they will be given the patience and strength to go through these trying times," he added.

Meanwhile, Penang PKR Youth also extended their condolences and prayed that the families of those killed would remain strong.

State PKR Youth chief Asrol Sani Abdul Razak said they would also suggest to the Penang government to carry out maintenance on the security aspects at all boarding schools and welfare centres in the state.

In the 5.15am incident today, 22 students and two wardens were killed when fire razed the school at Jalan Keramat Ujung, Datuk Keramat in Kuala Lumpur.

Six students and a member of the public were injured in the incident.
