Melaka donates RM10,000 to Darul Quran Ittifaqiyah tahfiz school

MELAKA: The state government will donate RM10,000 to the Darul Quran Ittifaqiyah tahfiz school, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron.

Idris said the monetary aid was to provide welfare assistance to those affected by the fire.

He also urged all Islamic religious school operators to approach the state local authorities to seek advice on the safety compliance of building plans.

"I do not wish for what have happened in Jalan Datuk Keramat to happen in Melaka. If we are not careful, it could happen again.

"So I have called on the Fire and Rescue Department and the Department of Occupational and Safety Health to conduct 'Operasi Pemutihan' and provide a comprehensive report on each tahfiz school in the state.

"I want to ensure that we are prepared, and that we have fire protection and prevention measures (in place), besides having an emergency response plan.

"It is absolutely important that we pay attention to all these details so that we need not pay a high price (of losing lives)," he said.

He also urged for all Islamic religious schools in the state here to equip itself with fire extinguishers.

Meanwhile, state Fire and Rescue Department director Kamarulzaman Malik Abdullah has urged parents who suspect if tahfiz schools of which their children are attending, are not registered or are not adhering to safety aspects, to alert the authorities or Melaka Islamic Religious Department (Jaim).

"All tahfiz schools must be registered under Jaim and obtain approval from the Fire and Rescue Department under the Fire Services Act 1988 and Uniform Building By-Law 1984," he said.
