KEPALA BATAS: The Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) wants the government to consider salary and allowance revision, bonus and promotion for numerous positions in the civil service under Budget 2018.
Its deputy president II Zainal Ismail said their requests would not be a burden to the government, looking at the country's economic stability, coupled with recognition from numerous international organisations.
He said they had sent in their requests to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak for consideration.
"In line with the government's aim to improve the standard of the civil service into world class, we hope the government will focus on the well-being of the civil servants from time to time.
"We are not here to make unresonable demands but our requests are based on the government's capability, and we are certain that the current leadership is able to fulfil our requests," he told newsmen here today.
He said there were currently 1.602 million civil servants in the country, serving the government to further develop the nation.
Zainal said Cuepacs hoped the salary revision would take into account annual increments, standardise allowances, bonus of one month salary and promotion from 13 to 10 years.
"We are fighting to have at least two salary increments annually, standardise allowances, bonus of one month compared to just RM500 presently and faster chance of promotion.
"We hope all that can be given due consideration so that civil servants will continue to give their best services and be at par with other developed countries," he added.
The Prime Minister had said that the Budget 2018, which will be tabled in Parliament on Oct 27, will be more people-centric.
