Pay revision for civil servants to boost domestic tourism sector

LANGKAWI: The salary revision for civil servants will help to boost the domestic tourism sector.

Finance Deputy Minister Lim Hui Ying said the salary hike was synonymous with improvements in the quality of life and purchasing power among the people.

"The public sector pay hike announced by the prime minister on Friday, after the last revision 12 years ago, is a good move following the rising cost of living.

"We are confident about the positive impact, particularly for the domestic tourism sector.

"They (civil servants) will have more disposable income and will be able to spend more on travels," she said after launching the Discovery Langkawi Snap & Share Merdeka Campaign (DLSSMC) at the Langkawi International Airport here today.

Present were Langkawi Development Authority (Lada) chief executive officer Datuk Haslina Abdul Hamid and her deputy Wan Kamarul Faisal Wan Kamardin.

Lim added that government agencies and tour agents should come up with interesting promotional packages to rejuvenate the tourism sector.

On the DLSSMC, Lim said the campaign organised by Lada was being held for a month until Sept 16 to increase Langkawi's visibility on social media platforms.

"Visitors who upload pictures and videos of Langkawi's fascinating locations on social media accounts that receive at least 100 likes are eligible to claim the prize at a special counter in the airport.

"We target to get 2,000 postings by social media users to participate in the maiden campaign," she said.
