One per cent of M'sian breast cancer victims are men, specialist reveals

KOTA BARU: One out of every 100 breast cancer patients is a man, said Datuk Dr Imi Sairi Ab Hadi, Chief Division and Senior Consultant Surgeon, Endocrine and Breast Surgery at the Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital (HRPZII) here.

“Male breast cancer may be due to genetic factors,” he told reporters after the Pink Walk Kaseh programme, organised by the Kota Baru People's Association (POKB) at the Maktab Sultan Ismail (SIC) field yesterday.

The 4.5-kilometre walk, which saw the participation of 7,000 people, was launched by Tengku Puan Temenggong Kelantan, Tunku Puan Sri Noor Hayati Tunku Abdul Rahman.

Dr Imi Sairi said in Kelantan, 250 to 300 people are diagnosed with breast cancer every year, with one per cent of them being men.

He added that the mortality rate for men diagnosed with breast cancer is higher than that of women, as their cancer is more aggressive. -- BERNAMA
