Funds for affordable homes, digital hubs on T'ganu's 2018 Budget wish list

KUALA TERENGGANU: Terengganu has requested an allocation from the federal government to build more than 10,000 affordable houses, which it hopes will be announced in the 2018 Budget, set for tabling on Friday.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman said the proposal was submitted to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak during recent budget discussions.

Razif said he hopes next year’s federal budget will be able to meet the rakyat's aspiration of owning affordable homes.

He also said that the state government had submitted a proposal to set up digital hubs at Telaga Papan in Setiu and Kampung Ladang Tok Pelam here.

"We plan to turn Terengganu into a digital hub to help traders, especially those who are active in online businesses,” he said.

Ahmad Razif added that the digital hubs would cost about RM25 million, occupy 400 hectares of state land each, and be jointly-developed with the Malaysian Digital Economic Corporation (MDEC).

"These two proposals are our special request, and we hope they are considered under the 2018 Budget," he said at Wisma Darul Iman on Thursday.
