PAP demands Ambiga to come forward to clear her name

GEORGE TOWN: People's Alternative Party (PAP) has called on for Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan to come clean after she was named as the source of Sarawak Report's claims that Pas' top leaders had allegedly received money from the prime minister.

PAP vice-president Rahmad Isahak said she should come forward to refute the allegation and clear her name if it was untrue.

"She should not be keeping quiet if the claims, contained in documents filed in court, are slanderous, more so being a lawyer.

"As long as she keeps quiet, her integrity and credibility as a law practitioner will be questionable as it has broken the code of ethics," he said.

Rahmad said if indeed the allegations were true, then questions would arise on the possibility of high profile cases she handled for her clients can be considered safe or information may have been leaked to the opponent.

"As such, she has no alternative choice but to come forward to clear the air

"There is no need for her to wait until her statements are taken before she reveal the truth on who her informant really is.

"With the 14th general election fast approaching, the people have every right to know who is lying in this matter," he added.

Rahmad also said that by coming forward, this would also put to rest perception that Ambiga was trying to bring down the political democracy elements without solid proof.

Ambiga was named by Clare Rewcastle-Brown as the source. This came about after Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang filed a defamation suit against Rewcastle-Brown in London.

Ambiga has refused to comment.
