Bank Islam eases anxieties of flood-affected customers with Prihatin Programme

KUALA LUMPUR: Flood-affected customers who wish to perform banking transactions need not worry about damaged facilities, as Bank Islam launched its ‘Prihatin Programme’ yesterday.

The programme aims to ease the financial burden of the bank’s customers and provide assistance to all those affected by the natural disaster affecting northern states.

The programme includes a waiver on any charge imposed on applications for replacement Bank Islam cards and passbooks; a moratorium of up to six months for financing products’ monthly instalment payments; and a waiver on Compensation Fee (Ta’widh) imposed on customers’ accounts during the moratorium period.

Bank Islam’s chief executive officer Khairul Kamarudin said they are taking proactive measures to help customers manage their finances during the floods.

“We are aware of the difficulties experienced by our customers as they struggle with their daily lives in coping with the current situation. The wellbeing of communities has always been one of our main priorities, hence, we hope that this programme will help to relieve their anxieties over financial commitments they have during this difficult period.

“We stand committed to help the nation and support the affected states in ensuring the welfare and interest of the people,” he said in a statement issued today.

Bank Islam will also temporarily suspend a number of non-critical banking services at its branches which have been involved in flood-recovery operations to safeguard its customers’ accounts and business operations.

The suspended services include the opening of new accounts, new requests for internet banking services, and amendments to Customer Information Files.

Customers may call Bank Islam’s contact centre at 03-2690 0900 for more information pertaining to the ‘Prihatin Programme’.

For enquiries and requests for the moratorium on monthly instalments for Bank Islam’s financing services, or a waiver for Compensation Charges (Ta’widh), customers may call the hotline at 03- 26900922.
