SUNGAI PETANI: The upgrading work at the Kulim High-Tech Water Treatment plant in Pinang Tunggal is expected to be completed by January next year.
Kedah Housing, Local Government, Water Resources, Water Supply and Energy committee chairman Datuk Badrul Hisham Hashim said the completion of the treatment plant would help solve water issues in the Kulim district.
He said the upgrading work would increase the capacity of treated water at the plant from 150 million cubic litres to 300 million cubic litres.
“The upgrading work at the treatment plant began on February 2015. It will benefit 80,000 account holders involving 400,000 people.
“The project costs RM81 million for the upgrading of the treatment facility and equipment,” he said after visiting the plant today.
Badrul added that it will also meet the industrial demand in phase four and five of the industrial park.
He said this also would give assurance to investors who are planning to build their business at the park.
Badrul said there will be no shortage of raw water for the treatment plant as it would receive ample supply from Sungai Muda.
