KUANTAN: A man used chocolates and cash to lure his neighbour's two underage daughters to follow him, before raping them.
On the afternoon of Nov 6, the 25-year-old man - who is a neighbour to the parents of the two girls, aged six and eight respectively, here - had convinced the older girl to go with him on a motorcycle ride around the village.
Things took a dark turn when he brought her to a water tank at the village, and proceeded to rape her.
He then used the same tactic on the younger girl - offering chocolates and cash - and brought her to an oil palm estate near the housing settlement, where he raped the girl.
After each rape, the man, who is unmarried, purportedly brought the victims back to their homes while acting nonchalantly as though nothing had happened.
However, the girls told what had transpired to their parents, who promptly lodged a report at the Jaya Gading police station here on the same day.
Acting on the report, a team from the district Criminal Investigation Department raided the man's house and arrested him two days later (on Nov 8).
This was revealed by Kuantan police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Aziz Salleh during a press conference at the district police headquarters here today.
"During the raid, the suspect, who works as a lorry attendant, had just arrived at his house after delivering items. He was stunned at the presence of policemen and didn't escape.
"Based on checks by the police, the suspect has no criminal record and tested negative (for drugs) when subjected to a urine test," Aziz said.
He said initial investigation found that both victims knew the man, who lived with his parents and siblings.
"The suspect has been remanded until Nov 28 to assist investigation under Section 376 of the Penal Code (for rape), which carries a penalty of maximum jail term of 20 years and fine on conviction," he said.
