TELUK INTAN: A bulldozer driver was charged at the Magistrate's Court here, today, with raping an underage girl last year.
The 19-year-old accused, however, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read before Magistrate T. Ashvinii.
According to the charge sheet, he was accused of raping his 15-year-old girlfriend in a hotel room in Jalan Sultan Abdullah, Teluk Intan, here at 10.30pm on May 6, last year.
The offence falls under Section 376 (1) of the Penal Code which provides for a maximum prison sentence of 20 years and caning, if convicted.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Izzudin Fakri Hamdan prosecuted while the accused was represented by lawyer, Farriz Minarwan.
Izzudin Fakri requested the court to set bail of RM5,000.
In his plea, Farriz, requested a lower amount, saying that his client had only secured a job two weeks ago and now shouldered the responsibility of caring for his mother following his father's recent death.
The court set bail at RM1,500 with one surety and prohibited the accused from approaching or disturbing the victim until the case is disposed of.
The court scheduled Aug 15 for mention.
