IPOH: Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) created history as it became the first university in Asia to have a high-tech recreation park known as the ‘UPSI Adventure Park’.
UPSI Co-curriculum Centre sports and games coordinator Dr Mazuki Mohd Yasim said the park, which used state-of-the-art technology from France, will begin operating in January.
He said the park, which had the ‘challenge ropes course’ and open to the public, was situated at the Sultan Azlan Shah Campus, Proton City in Tanjung Malim.
“The three-hectare recreational park uses ‘zip stop’ technology for the flying fox activity where a mechanical system is used to bring participants to a stop, without the need of an instructor.
“UPSI Adventure Park promises maximum satisfaction to visitors by prioritising safety,” he said in a statement here, today, adding that it cost RM800,000 to build the park.
The park, said Mazuki, was the idea of UPSI Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) Assoc Prof Dr Md Amin Md Taff.
He added that among the extreme sports activities available at the park were ‘wall climbing’, ‘speed climbing’, ‘abseiling’, and ‘flying fox’, alongside jungle trekking, kayaking and cycling.
He also hoped that the facility managed by the Co-curriculum Centre, would become an institute which served as a reference point and development centre for recreation in the country.
He said the park, which could accommodate up to 200 people, would be opened daily but the admission fee had yet to be determined. -- BERNAMA
