City Hall offering special compound rates to clear 3.2 million unpaid summonses

KUALA LUMPUR: City Hall is offering traffic offenders special compound rates from Dec 15 until Feb 28 next year, the local authority announced in a statement today.

The rates are RM20 for motorcycles, RM30 for cars and RM50 for heavy vehicles, including buses and lorries.

“The special compound rate is, however, limited to traffic offenses and is not for cases brought to court, and cases that have been blacklisted by the Road Transport Department (RTD),” it said.

DBKL revealed that it was compelled to make the offer as it is sitting on an astounding 3.2 million unsettled compound notices from 2014 to 2016.

Following a reminder sent to offenders by enforcement officers recently, only 333,376 notices were settled until Oct 2017, which translated to RM10,547,217 in fine collection.

City Hall also issued 1,170,953 (current) notices from Jan to Oct this year, of which only 179,466 have been settled, translating to RM8,821,361 in fine collection.

A total of 34,897 traffic cases have also been brought to court.

Up to October this year, 4,732 of City Hall’s traffic cases have been blacklisted by the RTD.
