IPOH: After the embarassing bunting incident at the Sultan Ismail Petra Airport in Kota Baru, Kelantan, another notice with bad English emerged, this time at the Ipoh Tourist Information Centre (ITIC).
A New Straits Times reader took a photo of the notice that read: "Sorry for the complementary, we are closing temporary Saturday 30/12/17 & Sunday 31/12/17 because we had an unexpected problem within with our networking & air conditioner issue. We are sure that we are been operated on 2nd January 2018. TQ".
Ipoh Mayor Datuk Zamri Man said checks revealed that the notice was put up by a council staff who was on duty at the centre.
"We will call the staff to get an explanation on the error and how it was allowed to happen.
"If there was negligence (by the staff) without due consideration of the risks placed on the council, we will issue a show-cause letter to the staff.
"If the staff is found to have committed an offence, a stern warning letter will be issued. This is to ensure that it would not happen again," he said in a statement.
A visitor, who wished to be named as Eli, hoped that the council would be more mindful when putting up such notices.
"It is embarassing to spot such an error at a tourist destination like Ipoh. However, instead of harsh disciplinary action, I hope that the council sends its staff for courses so that they can improve their proficiency in English.
"This is especially important for those who have to deal with tourists daily," she said.
Checks at the site revealed that the notice has since been removed.
Malaysia Airports Bhd was recently criticised after pictures of a bunting, which wished visitors a "Mary Christmas" and “Happy New Years” making its rounds on social media, drawing flak from netizens.
It has since removed the bunting that was placed at the airport and apologised for the grammatical and spelling errors.
