From Feb 1, no more tolls for M'sian motorists entering Singapore via Woodlands

JOHOR BARU: From Feb 1, all motorists entering Singapore from the Woodlands checkpoint will no longer have to pay toll.

The toll-free entry at the Woodlands Land Checkpoint marks Singapore’s move to reciprocate the Malaysian government’s abolishment of the Eastern Dispersal Link (EDL) toll plaza operations, which took effect on Jan 1.

The Singapore Land and Transport Authority, in a statement on its website today, said vehicles entering Singapore via the Woodlands checkpoint would not be charged any toll fees.

On the other hand, vehicles exiting Singapore from the same checkpoint would be charged toll fees at reduced rates.

The revised rates, beginning Feb 1, will see cars leaving Singapore subjected to a SGD1 (RM3.01) fee instead of the previous rate of SGD3.80 (RM11.45).

Vans and light goods vehicles, which currently pay SGD5.80 (RM17.4) upon exit, will now be charged SGD1.50 (RM4.50).

Lorries and freight trucks, categorised under heavy goods vehicles, will pay SGD2 (RM6) instead of SGD7.70 (RM23.20) during exit.

Taxis and buses will be charged SGD0.50 (RM1.50) and SGD0.80 (RM2.40), respectively, lower than the previous rate of SGD1.90 (RM5.70) and SGD 3.10 (RM9.30).

Motorcyclist will continue to enjoy toll-free travel when entering and exiting Singapore.

An average of 400,000 vehicles pass through the Causeway daily.

The LTA also reminded motorists to ensure that there is sufficient value in their Autopass cards before driving through the checkpoints, in order to minimise longer queues at the toll gates.

“Motorists who evade payment of the tolls, fees and charges are liable to pay a composition sum of SGD50, while repeat offenders will have to pay SGD100. Motorists who do not pay the composition sum may be charged in court and are liable to a fine not exceeding SGD1,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding three months for the first offence," the statement said.

However, LTA did not indicate any changes to the tolls rates for vehicles going in and out from Singapore from the Tuas land checkpoint. It is understood that the revised toll charges only apply to the Woodlands checkpoint only.
