KUALA LUMPUR: Singapore's Land Transport Authority arrested 14 drivers in a three-day-operation at Changi Airport for operating illegal chauffeur services.
In a Facebook post today, it said the drivers were arrested for offering the services between Singapore and Malaysia, as well as within Singapore itself.
The authority also seized their foreign-registered vehicles.
"We take these offences very seriously and will not condone drivers providing such illegal services.
"Do not use these services; they not only break the law, but also put your safety at risk.
"The vehicles involved may lack adequate insurance coverage, putting you at serious risk, should an accident occur," the post read.
It said drivers found offering illegal hire-and-reward services, including cross-border trips without a valid Public Service Vehicle Licence (PSVL), can be fined up to $3,000 (RM9,926.67) face up tp six months' jail.
Additionally, the vehicles involved may also be forfeited, it said.
Meanwhile, the agency's spokesman told Singapore's Straits Times that the recent arrests bring the total number of drivers caught for illegal cross-border services since 2022 to 32.
