Chair thrown from upper levels of Pantai Dalam flats kills teen

KUALA LUMPUR: A 15-year-old boy died when a chair, thrown from an upper floor of a block of low-cost flats in Pantai Dalam, struck his head last night.

S. Sathiwaran, a Form Three student of SMK La Salle in Petaling Jaya, was accompanying his mother S. Kasthurivai, 45, who had just finished grocery shopping.

Both mother and son were about to enter their block, Block 102 at the Seri Pantai People's Housing Project (PPR) at 8.30pm when tragedy struck.

A blue office chair, believed to have been thrown from one of the upper floors, crashed down and struck Sathiwaran.

Brickfields police chief Assistant Commissioner Ruslan Khalid said the boy sustained severe injuries as a result.

"He died at the scene. His mother was fortunate not to have also been struck by the chair," he said.

Roslan said the case is being investigated under Section 304 A of the Penal Code for causing death by negligence. An investigation is ongoing.
