Police arrest driver of lorry that rolled back and killed motorcyclist

KUALA LUMPUR: Police arrested a lorry driver involved in a freak accident that resulted in the death of a motorcyclist and injured a driver on Saturday morning.

The incident, along Jalan Kerinchi, happened when the trailer, parked at a construction site, suddenly began rolling back onto the main road. It had been parked on an incline.

The video of the accident went viral on social media.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department head, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa, said police received a report of the incident at 8.34am, involving a motorcycle, a lorry, and a car.

"The lorry driver, a 32-year-old, was filling up his lorry's brake fluid inside the construction site when the incident occurred.

"While topping up the brake fluid, the trailer suddenly began rolling down the incline on its own, crashed through the safety gate, and rolled onto the main road, where it collided with a motorcycle ridden by a 32-year-old man.

"The victim fell and was crushed under the lorry's rear right tyres. He was confirmed dead at the scene," Zamzuri said in a statement.

He added that the momentum carried the lorry across the divider and onto the opposing lane, where it hit a passing car. The driver of the car sustained injuries to the forehead.

"The lorry driver was arrested under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said.
