KUALA LUMPUR: Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali was interviewed by the police on Friday to assist in an investigation into an illegal rally held here in September.
Federal police Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd stressed that the statement-taking process was carried out with due respect shown to the national figure.
“We carried out the (questioning) process professionally and respectfully with (Dr Siti Hasmah, bearing in mind her) position and status in the country.
“(In fact, Dr Siti Hasmah) said that she did not feel intimidated during the interrogation process,” he said in a statement issued on Sunday.
Najmuddin said that the 91-year-old wife of former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was cooperative and keen to help police in completing their investigation.
He therefore warned the public against speculating or spreading false information regarding the probe, and questioning the police’s motive in interviewing Dr Siti Hasmah.
“(The interview) was part of the investigation process and police are not being pressured by any party,” Najmuddin added.
Dr Siti Hasmah was quizzed by police officers at the Al Bukhary Foundation here on Friday over a speech she delivered at the Wanita Bantah Politik Toksik (Women Against Toxic Politics) rally held on Sept 10 last year.
Others who spoke at the rally include Pakatan Harapan president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail; Dr Siti Hasmah's daughter Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir; lawyer Datuk Ambiga Sreenavasan; and Bersih chairman Maria Chin Abdullah.
