GegaRia: A Fest for all ages

JOHOR BARU: The Throwback Tunnel exhibition at the GegaRia Fest at the Angsana Johor Baru Mall received some 5,000 visitors today.

The exhibition which opened its doors between 10am and 6pm showcased illustration drawings and pictures of the nation’s achievement in every decade since the country gained independence apart from displaying artifacts such as vintage televisions and antic bicycles.

The exhibition was aimed at raising the love and respect among the youths towards the older generation besides appreciating the sacrifices made by the nation’s freedom fighters to obtain Malaysia’s independence.

Kamarul Zaman Shamsudin from Nusajaya said he was keen to visit the tunnel after listening to the advertisement made on radio and having seen it on the social media.

The 34-year-old said he loves the nation’s independence history and was pleased with the exhibitions of old photos that he had never before seen apart from reading quotes by the Nation’s leaders.

"I brought my family members to the festival to fill their weekends with all the interesting activities available for all ages.

"The Throwback Tunnel Festival is our favourite as we got to see old pictures and remember the fight by our freedom warriors," he said.

Another visitor, Harun Budin, 29, said he and his friends came all the way from Kedah to visit the tunnel exhibition.

"We actually came from Kedah to watch the Piala Sumbangsih (Charity Shield) football match between JDT and Kedah tonight.

"Since we have plenty of time to spare, we decided to come and visit the fest here and participate in all the activities including the exhibition, digital games and try out all the food truck available before heading towards Larkin Stadium later in the evening.

"We are actually attracted to the Throwback Tunnel which displays all the old pictures that we have never seen before," he said.

Among the activities that will be conducted throughout the fest from 8am to 11pm include Sukan Rakyat, giant bubble activity, Throwback Tunnel zone, make-up tutorial, cooking demonstration and concert by local artists.

The highlight of the tonight's program will be the performances of local artists such as Plague of Happiness, Priscilla Abby, De Fam, Noh Salleh, Akim & The Majistrate, Masdo and Bunkface.

The GegaRia Festival organised by Media Prima Bhd will feature five container zones, namely Makan-Makan #Gegaria, Throwback Tunnel #GegaRia , Lifestyle #Gegaria, Community #Gegaria dan Entertainment #Gegaria.
