Moderate earthquake of 5.2 magnitude hits Ranau

KOTA KINABALU: A 5.2 magnitude Richter earthquake hit Ranau tonight, less than three years after the 2015 fatal earthquake there.

Tremors could be felt in several districts especially in the west coast, including the state capital, Tuaran, Papar, and Kota Belud. Locals in Keningau and Lahad Datu also reported feeling tremors.

Malaysian Meteorology Department confirmed the moderate quake, about 16 kilometres west of Ranau at 9.06pm.

The last impactful quake in this State was on June 5, 2015, where 5.9 magnitude was recorded at the same district.
